What do you get when you combine the above three elements, several scripts found in the far corners of the internet, free location-aware image hosting from Picasa and a few hours of meddling?
Something like this.
Click on an album to see the images displayed on a map. Zooming in shows more pictures, clicking on any thumbnail shows that particular picture.

This might need some work. When I click on a thumbnail, the map re-centres on my click. That's all.

Margaret - yup, next time I won't duct-tape my laptop to the dashboard. For some reason the angle of the windscreen in our car gives much worse reflections than in the Hilux - the snow video was made exactly the same way and is perfectly clear.
